Looking at some of the new model runs they are showing some exciteing stuff for the gulfcoast
Starting Dec 17-19 the 540 line is all the way to the gulfcoast with a wave over the gulf . This would cause snow in South Ms and south and central AL.
After this threat for winter precip the models are picking up on some bone chilling air with a 1052 high over Canada for Dec 21. We have not seen this kind of cold since the winters of 1983 and 1989. On Dec 23 the artic 1044 high is over Kansas with a 540 line all the way to the gulfcoast. Dec 24 a low is over the gulf and it would give many places in the deep south some major snow . Let's keep an close eye on the models runs and see if the cold wet trend continues.

Snowfall talk....well here we go.
GFS....THROW IT OUT! It doesn't line energy up in the trough in the medium range ensembles! Much lower resolution. Over does precipitation and cold air as well. BUT...the key is the ECMWF and Canadian are beginning to line up for a snowstorm SOMEWHERE in the deep south right around Christmas....I have a feeling the shocker is going to be from surprise snow earlier in the week though guys....dont count out Tuesday yet...

ha, good thing I don't live in the deep south. My chances for snow are better here. I used to live in Georgia and it got boring without much snow. really sucked.

I don't want to shove the possibility of snow in the deep south out of the realm of possibilities but the chances for you getting snow in Mobile Al, are 30:1 let me explain...The trof position is suppose to set up in the Midwest, which would favor a storm track where you would receive rain, and Chair's Connection also argues for a pattern that is progressive. So in layman's terms, you should be ahead of the cold front, and warm advection would theoretically taking place from air over the GOM. Tho, whomever is on the right side of the storm (relative to the surface low) is in for some nasty weather, especially with this arctic air, has high water to snow ratios.
