To load NHC hurricane info into Global Tracks:

1) go to http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
2) find the storm for which you want the information
3) click on forecast advisory
4) right click and select all
5) right click and copy
6) open notepad
7) paste
8) save as AL##yyyyfa.txt (## = storm number & yyyy = year & fa =forecast advisory). Remember where you kept the file (I like desktop)
9) Open Global Tracks
10) Under file > import forecast advisory
11) On 1st line find file saved in #8 above
12) Last line should be C:\ProgramData\Global Tracks 7\Data\2008 unless you have changed your data location
13) Click import
14) Under GT storms hit refresh and you should be in business.

To load Models into Global Tracks:

1) go to ftp://ftp.nhc.noaa.gov/atcf/aid_public/
2) download, unzip and save file wanted.
3) Rename file aal##yyyy.dat (remove extension after .dat)
4) Move file to Global Tracks hmodels file (C:\ProgramData\Global Tracks 7\HModels on my computer)
5) Open model guidance
6) Refresh
7) Updated information should be there
8) GFDL will be located under not the most recent download, but the one prior as it is older information.

Invest information to be provided later.

I just returned from my deployment. I did notice that there was an SQL inject trojan horse virus from somewhere in Russia that got into the forum. I think I've successfully removed the virus, but I may have to shut down the php based forum and just go for static text to keep from getting hacked.

Cheers,
Bryan

Here are some possible quick steps to get Satellite and Radar downloads into Global Tracks 7.

Quick Method Windows XP:
1. Download the following 2 files to your desktop.
http://www.extremewx.com/gt/downloads/metsat.job *right click to save the file
http://www.extremewx.com/gt/downloads/radar.job *right click to save the file
2. After downloading to your desktop, go to the Control Panel and select/open "Scheduled Tasks".
4. Drag and drop these 2 files into the Scheduled Tasks window.
5. Right click on each of these files in the Scheduler and select Properties.
6. Double check the Run As section to make sure your user name is in there and not mine. smile
7. If the above process worked, then this should do the trick. Downloads will happen every hour.
8. To test the scrip you can right click and select run, then give it a couple minutes to download the data. Check in GT to see if you have any imagery.

Quick Method Windows Vista:
1. Download the following 2 files to your desktop.
http://www.extremewx.com/gt/downloads/GT_Satellite_Download.xml *right click to save the file
http://www.extremewx.com/gt/downloads/GT_Radar_Download.xml *right click to save the file
2. After downloading to your desktop, go to the Control Panel and select/open "Scheduled Tasks".
3. In the Scheduled Tasks window right click in the white space and select import.
4. Import the files you have downloaded.
5. Once imported, right click and select properties to check the settings. You may have to change the Run As parameter.
6. Test your settings by right click and select run.

The longer methods:
Open the task scheduler and manually go through the steps. If you don't know the settings, then there will be a little trial and error to get the settings you want.
Basically the most important settings are in the "Advanced" section of the Schedule. In this section, you set up how ofter you want to repeat the download task. I recommend 1 hour for satellite and 10 to 15 minutes for radar.

If you have any questions for the manual process, please let me know.
Bryan
