I was wondering cause last night on anouther site a young man posted that he called in sick and I was just wondering how many of you call in sick ? I have never done this and have even worked when I shouldn't have. If your not in the hospital then your not to sick enough to be at work .

Yeah I have never figured this out. I have never called off sick yet for work, for the 4 years I have been working, I was late a couple of times. worked the wrong shift once. And my aunt died, and I needed to find replacements for work, which was accomplished. but obviously some people can miss and miss and never get fired, but I think employers become dependent on their best workers, and if those workers don't show up a day or two, everything goes to hell. but people who aren't counted on to do much, can miss work, without much notice.

the thing is that employers need employees
and if the "bad" workers decide to quit because they got "in trouble"
the company will have to rehire and retrain more people
taking advantage of the good worker because they assume they will always be there
you will find poor management everywhere
and in alot of places people tend to stick together
a group of loyal good workers will get tired of all the b/s and just leave
managment doesn't know how much differance even one employee makes
and they don't realize it untill its too late

If I call in sick, it has to be the flu. I can't see people coming to work looking like they got ran over by a dump truck, coughing, sneezing and breatheing all their germs on you. Stay the heck home noone wants your misery. I work in a school cafeteria and I definetly don't want a small child getting my misery. I did sprain my ankle and the doctor wrote me a stay home note. I'm not going to suffer with a sprained ankle so my employer remembers me during employee of the month. If I'm in pain I'm staying the heck home. Other than that I do go to work, I'm off this summer though. But september back to school to serve the little youngens.

+1
Yes I have. Once for the flu. Once for a pinched nerve in my neck, once for when my back went out, and once for a stomach virus. That's all I can think of.

I've called in sick for really being sick.
My view is if your sick stay the hell away and don't spread the germs. :) You aint being a hero for getting everyone else sick around you.
I know there were a few days I wanted to call in sick cuz I was "sick of work" but I couldn't. :)
I was talking to my wife a few months ago about calling in sick, even when you're not. She said she had done it a few times, while I never have. I've never even considered it.
As far as working while sick, I've had to do it. Construction work requires you to work when you can, especially during the Winter. I worked with the flu years ago. I didn't have a choice. It was either work or lose my house. :icon_puke

I work unless I literally can not get out of bed and have to have someone take me to the doctor.....
as a manager the quickest way to not be employed by me anymore is to call in sick and not bring a doctor's note upon your return

I always felt Dr's note was a waste of time and money, they're gonna tell you your sick and to eat soup and rest and get 10 to 25 bux of your money. Unless you know something else is going on like the time I had Bronchitis, had some nasty stuff in my chest. Didn't think that was too good so I went cuz then you need antibiotics. :) yea that sucked :frown:
I've had hands that weren't sick, but wanted to take time off. The actual reasons have been for everything including seeing their mistress and working a side job. Our rule is three days. If you're off three days, then you need a doctor release. If you don't have one, then you need to come see me and belly up to the bar.

Yes, but it was because I was having an anxiety attack.

Very rarely, and only if I am very sick or told by a doctor to stay away from work (missed 3 days last winter when doc said I had the early signs of the flu and I should not go to work for the rest of the week). Even then I just log in from the house and work remotely.
I am a manger, and have 1 guy who misses work I would guess at least 10 days a year - this last 3 day illness he was with a new manager - I was getting tired of him not being here and as he never took his laptop home he was just gone.Should be interesting to see what happens with his new manager...

True.....but if they aren't going to show up for work it will cost them the time and money to get a note so their lazy asses don't just get a free day off and leave their officemates to do double the amount of work.
We had one employee that worked a short period of time, and then went on to bigger a better things, I guess. A friend eventually told us he had AIDS, which made me wonder about a lot of things - mostly if it was an airborne contagion.

BS, you shouldn't be at work if you are sick to spread it to others. Stay home, that's why you have sick leave.
When i read this topic I thought someone had called in FROM work. That's how it reads./gig/
