looking ahead to this weekend and thinking of a possible chase. models looked much better earlier but have tended to go downhill recently.500mb winds seem to be getting worse and worse with 700mb winds backed(thats a bad thing).there also dosen't seem to be a surface focus with the best winds further south in the plains.

so, once again we are looking at a marginal setup for this weekend.this seems to have been the case all year long!what has happened to tornado alley?oklahomas official tornado count for may is a whopping 1.personaly i have never seen a tornado count so low.i have invested thousands of dollars this year in chase equipment and on the chase vehicle.this kind of year makes me want to drive my chase vehicle into the red river at a very high rate of speed! :icon_evil heck, california has more naders than the plains this year.

so instead of driving 1000 miles for a marginal setup i think i will just take my family to the lake.

any other chasers frustrated at this season?

Is it true that "tornado alley" is supposed to shift southward in years to come to include the states of Louisiana and Mississippi? Just curious.

i don't know about any "shift" but the map below clearly shows that LA is IN tornado alley while MS is just outside:

Oof, didn't realize my state was in the "alley" so to speak. Thanks Phil.

over the last few years it seems like tornado alley has shifted north actualy.iowa, illinois, nebraska and even minnesota seem to be the hot spots. wierd huh?

Very weird. Another thing weird, is my old hometown of Westwego was hit by a tornado one November and the very next November was hit by yet another one, that one being a bit stronger than the previous one.

the further south you go in the fall the more tornados you get.some call it the secondary severe season. we actually had some pretty nice cold core multi-vortex twisters in oklahoma in october.funny,we have had more tornados in the fall than spring.it must be the apocolypse!
