NY DJ fired over remarks about rival, child
Wife of competing DJ says ‘he threatened to molest my little baby girl’

NEW YORK - The co-host of a syndicated morning radio show was fired Wednesday for making racial and sexual remarks on the air about a rival’s wife and 4-year-old daughter.

Troi Torain, known as Star on the “Star & Buc Wild Morning Show” on Power 105 FM, lost his job after protests by a City Council member and other elected officials.

His remarks about DJ Envy, a DJ for rival hip-hop station Hot 97, and his family included “I will come for your kids” and a desire to “do an R. Kelly ... on your little baby girl.”

Videotapes in 2002 showed a man resembling singer R. Kelly having sex with someone who appeared to be an underage girl, then urinating on her.

Torain’s comments, made between May 3 and Monday, also included an offer of $500 to any listener who could provide information about the rival DJ’s daughter’s school, and used racial slurs when talking about his wife, who is part Asian.

Torain, through his manager, Wyatt Cheek, declined to comment.

Councilman John Liu and DJ Envy’s wife, Gia Casey, appeared at City Hall on Wednesday to denounce Torain’s remarks.

“He threatened to molest my little baby girl,” Casey said.

The station’s owner, Clear Channel, said it found Torain’s statements “wholly unacceptable.”

The show airs in markets including Philadelphia, Miami and Richmond, Va. Clear Channel is a unit of Clear Channel Communications Inc.

It is a shame that we have sick people living among us.Not only did the dj needed to get fired the radio show needs to be removed from the airwaves.There is a lot of good people out there and it only takes one to goof it all up for everybody else.God Bless everyone.

Storm, I put the **'s in. I don't have any complaints about the filter. I've seen it to where people will go further with curse words and simply fight back when they're warned saying...."Well, you said azz yesterday. What's the difference?" I particularly worry about that come cane season. Lots of trouble makers and trolls will be join'n us. So, I guess it's simply a case of the good having to suffer for the bad. there are at least 2 problems with this situation, but society brings it on.

1) the show that did is was syndicated in more then 5 markets. After the comment the syndication was dropped, but the fact that a show like that made it to syndication shows that behavior like this had been tollerated before. Star and Buc Wild have always been a stern or bubba the love sponge styled show for quite awhile. It was accepted all the way up until a kid was involved. Star and Buc Wild had gone after the competition on the air all the time.

2) While society is mad about the statement now, it means nothing. Star and Buc Wild will be back on the air again! we just don't know where now. My guess is that XM or Sirius radio will pick up the show (maybe add it to the Stern network) to try and draw more of an urban audience to satellite radio.

Which goes back to the beginning, as bad as the comment is. We as Americans have made it to where comments like this are accepted and give people the abilty to make a name for themselves when they behave this way. It is embarresing to me that this behavior is not only tolerated but accepted.

You are right Kratzerjd about society as a whole accepting this type of behavior. The funny thing is people are so worried that the government may know which telephone number they called and think nothing of allowing the morals and values of our country decay like a piece of rotten fruit on the side of a road on a hot day.

BTW: I would rather the government know which telephone numbers I dialed they every financial detail about me which they already know. Also, I hate having to give strangers (usually some kid) my social security number over the telephone to get information about MY bills, etc.

Report: Star Arrested For On-Air Remarks

Former PREMIERE RADIO NETWORKS syndicated radio jock STAR (aka TROI TORAIN) has been arrested on charges of harrassment and endangering the welfare of a child in a case stemming from his on-air verbal attack of rival crosstown EMMIS Top 40/Rhythmic WQHT (HOT 97) mixer DJ ENVY's wife and 4-year-old daughter (NET NEWS 5/10), reports the AP.

Police officials reportedly launched a hate crime investigation of TORAIN yesterday (5/11) after reviewing a transcript of his on-air threats. TORAIN was contacted by authorities today and ordered to surrender a 9mm handgun and target practice permit at police headquarters. When TORAIN arrived to do so, he was arrested and taken to lower MANHATTAN's 1st Precinct.

A call to TORAIN's attorney, BENJAMIN BRAFMAN, by the AP was not immediately returned. TORAIN had apologized yesterday (5/11) through BRAFMAN, although the lawyer maintains that his client was the victim of threats by DJ ENVY. BRAFMAN called TORAIN's remarks "unsuitable and inappropriate," but also assured ENVY's wife, GIA CASEY, that she had nothing to fear.

As previously reported here on ALL ACCESS, TORAIN was fired WEDNESDAY (5/10) by CLEAR CHANNEL Urban WWPR (POWER 105.1)/NEW YORK (his show, STAR & BUC WILD, was subsequently dropped the next day by syndicator PREMIERE RADIO NETWORKS) for, among other comments, remarking on-air to DJ ENVY, "If you didn't hear me, I said I would like to do an R. KELLY on your seed, on your little baby girl," a reference to urinating on ENVY's 4-year-old daughter. TORAIN also reportedly offered $500 to any listener who could produce the address of ENVY's daughter's school.

Update: In related news, ALL ACCESS has confirmed with POWER 105.1 that PREMIERE RADIO NETWORKS' syndicated weekend personality BIG TIGGER and POWER 105.1 weekender EGYPT will handle POWER's 6a-10a shift. As of today, this arrangement is for next week only.
