As hurricane season draws closer and preparations to deal with them begin to take shape, an innovative new University of South Florida program is offering opportunities to learn about hurricanes, their impact and the best ways communities can respond before, during and after.
The seven-credit-hour summer program, offered by the USF Office of Undergraduate Research, in conjunction with the Honors College is a new interdisciplinary Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU). The program, open to all USF undergraduates, consists of three courses:
• a one-week intensive quantitative and qualitative research methods course;
• a course training students in humanitarian and social interventions during and after hurricanes; and
• a research seminar presenting weekly lecture-discussion presentations offered by faculty members engaged in hurricane-related scholarship and service.
