Detroit 911 Operators Are Arraigned
Jun 09 1:06 PM US/Eastern

DETROIT

Two 911 operators who authorities say did not believe a 5-year-old boy who called to say his mother had collapsed were arraigned Friday on willful neglect of duty charges.

Judge Jimmylee Gray entered not guilty pleas for Sharon Nichols 43, and Terri Sutton, 47. If convicted of the misdemeanor, they could get a year in jail.

The women declined to comment afterward, but their lawyers said the operators intend to fight the charges.

"We look forward to coming to court and defending this case in the proper forum," said Sutton's lawyer, David Lee.

No police car was sent after Nichols took the first call on Feb. 20. The boy then called again three hours later, and Sutton sent police out to discipline the child and inform the parent that the youngster was dialing 911, prosecutors said.

When police finally arrived, 46-year-old Sherrill Turner was dead.

Disciplinary action against the operators was pending and could range from suspension without pay to dismissal, police said.

God i hope they rot in jail. Thanks to them a little boy will live his life without his mother. I hope they have to face that child and look and see what they done to him. I hope they rot in jail then rot someplace else.

Man, this sucks! All they had to do was their J-O-B. Why on earth is this so hard for some people? I was having a good day until I read about this. I hope they burn for it....

It wasn't their job to figure out if it was a prank call or not - that would be for the police to follow if it turned out to be - unless they get pressure from their supervisors to screen the calls...if that is the case, then there should be more than these two in trouble....

I think I posted this, a while back, when it took place.?. Wasn't this the story where TWO different operators didn't believe the lil boy.?. I'm pretty sure it's the same. God...I hope it's not ANOTHER case where this has happened.?.

I think it is but this is the charges and trial of it I believe. I think what you posted was the story when it happend. I may be completly wrong, I haven't done any research on it.

True. What I usually do is do a search for the original story and post it there so I can keep it all in the same thread. Just so all the writings about that particular story will all be together.
Well, like I said, I'm just glad this hasn't happened again...so soon after hearing about it before.

That makes a lot of sence... Another reason I usually don't start a thread... I have a lot to learn.
