LI Phil - I saw it too. A loop? Maybe ERC beginning? Thought I was going faint or something. 8-)

Wow, this is just well, unbelievable. Never did I think I would ever see this in a season. Just when I thought we were done and never expected to see another Cat 5 and then not only that but to fly past Rita and Katrina and even then Gilbert. *sits here scratching head* stunned. I, well, don't know what to say except I will be just watching today. Needing to know when she is going to make that turn because that will determine how prepared I need to be.

I think all we can say is WOW!!! What would be the predicted storm surge at this time??

Wilma main thread - adunifon - 10-19-2005 07:55 AM

if this is the strongest hurricane in the atlantic basin, what hurricane and typhoons have been stronger elsewhere?

If it made landfall at this pressure, probably well in excess of 30 feet... Thank heavens that it won't make landfall at this pressure!!

Typhoon Tip - 870mb

see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typhoon_Tip
--
That was way back in 1979.

*you know, I'm sure there have probably been a few storms in the last thousand years that have been down to 850mb, maybe even 800, just that we never had the tech' back then to measure them.

Wilma right now sure is wild, and contrary to what some are saying, I'd think she'll hold up well for another 6hrs or so - when the recon at 2pm EST gets there.

Wilma at 850mb this afternoon? Hmm, unlikely, but then if I suggested 882 last night I would have been laughed off every message board - even the 'crazy ones'.

It be' an interesting day.

lol, looking at the NHC water vapour loop...its so funny seeing the eye do a loop-da-loop as it proceeds on its generally NW path.

Damn, I'd kill for a good drop sonde reading right now !
