    AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAMPA BAY RUSKIN FL
    207 PM EST TUE JAN 1, 2008
Forecast Discussion: A Deepening mid level trough is intensifying a High pressure area over the Intermountain West. As the High moves southeast a Strong Northerly Flow will pull Cold air over Florida. As the winds subside Thursday morning (the 3rd)...Radiational cool will drop temperatures into the teens over extreme northern zones to 20's over inland areas with 30's near the coast. In this evolving situation the models are generally within a couple of degrees and I increased a degree or two over the models with wind and air mass source region concerns. Otherwise mostly clear skies with plenty of wind chill and RH/Fire Weather Problems.

A whole slew of warnings and watches up: Freeze Warning for tonight; Red Flag Warning; Wind Chill Advisory; and Fire Weather Watch.

    Forecast for Wednesday the 2nd:
Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 47. Wind chill values as low as 22 early. North northwest wind between 17 and 21 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 20. North northwest wind between 8 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

    Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin, Fla.
    1:17 p.m. EST January 2, 2008

Short Term (Tonight - Friday): Strong cold surface High pressure building into the eastern U.S. will support some of the coldest temperatures so far this season across the forecast area tonight and early Thursday morning. Northerly flow down the spine of the Peninsula combined with clear skies and very dry air mass will support several hours of Sub-freezing temperatures across most of the forecast area...exception being right along the immediate coast.

After looking over current Temp/Dewpoint trends and model guidance will be upgrading and expanding the Hard Freeze Watch to a Hard Freeze Warning for the Nature coast extending south into central and southwestern portion of the Forecast area. Based on current model data temperatures are forecast to dip into the Teens over the Nature coast and 25 to 28 degree range over Central and Southwestern portions of the forecast area, mainly east of I-75 corridor...with 6 to 8 hour durations of less than 32 degrees possible. In addition to the cold temperatures northerly winds in the 15 to 20 mph range alone the immediate coast and 10-15 mph inland will make for very low wind chill readings overnight...and a Wind Chill Warning will be issued for the entire forecast area early this afternoon.

A Bunch of warnings tonight: Hard Freeze Warning; Lake Wind Advisory; Red Flag Warning; Wind Chill Warning

Forecast for Tonight and Thursday the 3rd:
Overnight: Clear, with a low around 18. Wind chill values as low as 11. North northwest wind around 9 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 53. Wind chill values as low as 9 early. North northeast wind between 7 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 33. North northeast wind around 9 mph.
