A few deep rumbles of thunder were heard about 30 minutes ago. Now the lightning and thunder are distant as this current cluster of storms is staying north of us over Holley and western Eglin. There's a few more storms straddling the coast, so we'll see if they hold together or are replaced by newer storms.

Otherwise just a few showers this afternoon and nothing else from this storm system so far.

The second cluster of storms moved in with a decent amount of lightning and some moderate to heavy rain. Consistent northerly winds with this one too. Some of the lighting caused the power to blip here twice too.

So much for severe thunderstorms from this most recent cold blast, all we netted were three rounds of sprinkles. Very cold and windy yesterday, it was only 38 at 10 am.

I take it the snow didn't fall either?

Hard to do that in Florida this time of year.

Not wrong for where I am, nothing fell. But in areas near here, yes.

One problem with wunderground.com is that they rely upon the backyard weather stations too often. When I go to look up the current obs for Navarre, I get this Hidden Creek place.

Right now there are no clouds in the sky, but the current condition there is:
    63.4 °F / 17 °C
    Light Rain

Additionally the historical and climatological stats for nearby Hurlburt Field have major issues. The normal high is always two degrees lower than Pensacola, and I've seen other oddities, like summertime times recorded there in the winter.

Hmmm, can you recommend one Ocala?
    ============
Speaking of fog, the way Rolltide was talking about a 24-hour dense fog advisory, I noticed some sea fog hanging around at 3 this afternoon eastward over Okaloosa County. It created an interesting contrast with the blue skies above:

    Depends what you want Alex.
You can go low end, $100-$200.
Or you can get a Davis, $500-$600.
I opted for the Davis because I wanted quality. They also have great cust service.
I understand a Davis isn't in everyone's budget but Davis does have some lower priced stations.
Let me know what your interested in and I'll post some links.

0.35 inches of rain from the earlier band of showers. A much broader shield or precipitation is on the way!

La Nina has done a number on rainfall here this year. Today's was the first time its rained this month and first time we received any precip since the 0.07 in. on 02-28. Last substantial rain came one month ago today.

Send some down our way, we need some badly.

But this front is creeping along and won't have much punch if/when it arrives Tuesday.

    Flash Flood Watch

Statement as of 2:40 PM CDT on March 25, 2009

... Flash Flood Watch in effect through Saturday morning...

The National Weather Service in Mobile has issued a

and southeast Mississippi... including the following areas... in
Alabama... Butler... Choctaw... Clarke... Conecuh... Covington...
Crenshaw... Escambia... lower Baldwin... lower Mobile... Monroe...
upper Baldwin... upper Mobile... Washington and Wilcox. In
northwest Florida... coastal Escambia... coastal Okaloosa...
coastal Santa Rosa... inland Escambia... inland Okaloosa and
inland Santa Rosa. In southeast Mississippi... George...

    * Through Saturday morning

    * a cold front will stall across the central Gulf Coast late tonight.
Upper level disturbances are expected to move across the front
through Friday bringing at least two rounds of heavy rain. The
first round will move through tonight into Thursday morning.
Another heavy rain event is expected Thursday night into Friday
morning. A stronger cold front will move across the area late
Friday into early Saturday morning bringing more heavy rainfall.
Total rainfall accumulations through Saturday morning of 4 to 8
inches can be expected. This will cause flooding on area rivers
    along with poor drainage areas.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to
flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action

Well the rotation has moved on by, and during the height of the storm, lots of swirling winds to go along with hail slightly larger than pea size. No tornado or funnel cloud though, but if there was, it was rain shrouded.

Storm was intense with some decent lightning and thunder for about a good 20 minutes. Rainfall and wind mainly came in from the north too. The bow echo is now moving into Ft. Walton Beach, leaving us with a canopy of rain and embedded thunder.

    Tornado Warning

Statement as of 8:34 AM CDT on March 26, 2009

... A Tornado Warning remains in effect until 915 am CDT for
southern Santa Rosa... extreme southeastern Escambia and southern
    Okaloosa counties...

At 831 am CDT... the National Weather Service continued to indicate a
severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado. This tornado was
near Navarre... moving east at 35 mph.

    The tornado will be near...
    Navarre by 840 am CDT...
Wright and Mary Esther by 900 am CDT...
Ocean City and Fort Walton Beach by 905 am CDT...
Eglin AFB by 910 am CDT...
Postil... Valparaiso... Niceville and Destin by 915 am CDT...

Second tornado warning in as many days for Navarre, followed by a second for central Okaloosa County. Mainly some gusty winds here along with heavy rain. No Hail this time, but lightning is consistent, though mainly cloud to cloud. Like yesterday, its another squall line with bow echoes followed by embedded heavier rain in a large sheet of precip heading back toward NOLA.

Another 6 am heavy thunderstorm this morning, and a third day of a tornado watch. This morning's storm was more heavy rain than anything else. It had its share of lightning and thunder, including one strike that momentarily knocked out power. A second batch of storms followed around 9-10, with mostly heavy rain and little lightning and thunder. A flash flood warning is in effect for parts of Okaloosa County currently. Otherwise the sun is out and Pensacola Regional Airport is currently reporting 80 degrees! (the first 80 degree mark of the year).
