From the N.O. NWS forecast this morning:

    .LONG TERM...
PARTLY CLOUDY AND COOL BUT NICE CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED FOR SUNDAY
ACTIVITIES. RETURN FLOW ON MONDAY SLOWLY INCREASES COLUMN MOISTURE
IN ADVANCE OF NEXT FRONTAL PASSAGE DUE TO SWEEP ACROSS THE AREA
MONDAY NIGHT. THE LOWER END OF THE FRONTAL ZONE WILL BE OF PACIFIC
ORIGIN BUT AN ARCTIC TAP DROPS THROUGH THE UPPER PLAINS AND SENT
SOUTHWARD FOR WEDNESDAY. SOME MODERATION OF THE COLD AIRMASS TAKES
PLACE AS NEXT LOW LATITUDE SYSTEM MOVES OUT OF TEXAS THURSDAY.
SOME POCKETS OF SLEET OR FREEZING RAIN MAY BE POSSIBLE ON THE
FRINGES AS MOISTURE MOVES INTO LINGERING COLD AIR BEFORE WARM AIR
ADVECTION FLUSHES OUT THE COLD AIR. A WET BULB EFFECT AT CRITICAL
TEMPERATURES COULD MAKE THIS A PROBLEMATIC OUTCOME FOR A LIMITED
AREA. GFS DOES SHOW CONDITIONAL WINTERY PRECIPITATION DURING THE
THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY TIME FRAME NEXT WEEK MAINLY IN SOUTHWEST
MISSISSIPPI AND THE UPPER FLORIDA PARISHES.
    THIS WILL HAVE TO BE
CLOSELY MONITORED FOR MODEL RUN CONSISTENCY NEXT FEW DAYS.

    Jackson, MS NWS:

THURSDAY THROUGH NEXT FRIDAY...THE GFS/GEFS ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT
THAT THE NEXT SRN STREAM TROUGH WILL INDUCE A WEAK GULF LOW
PRESSURE SYSTEM AND EVENTUALLY SEND AT LEAST LIGHT PRECIPITATION NWD
TO AREAS ALONG AND SOUTH OF I-20. DEPENDING ON HOW FRESH THE COLD
AIRMASS ENCOMPASSING THE ERN CONUS REMAINS...WE COULD SEE SOME
POTENTIAL FOR WINTERY PCPN WITH THIS SYSTEM. THE 00Z/06Z RUNS OF THE
GFS SHOW EXPLICIT -SN/IP IN THEIR OUTPUT...BUT THERE IS STILL PLENTY
OF TIME TO WATCH THE MODEL GUIDANCE FOR THIS AND HAVE REFRAINED FROM
INCLUDING WINTRY PCPN IN THE FORECAST UNTIL CONFIDENCE INCREASES.

    From AccuWeather:

Latest Snow Map Plains to Mid-Atlantic

A major, disruptive snowstorm will cause trouble from the lower Midwest through the mid-Atlantic into the weekend. Roadway conditions will quickly deteriorate as snow spreads across these regions, while hundreds of flights will be delayed or cancelled.

The heaviest snow, from 1-2 feet, will take dead aim on the mid-Atlantic. The snow will blanket this zone tonight into Saturday, creating whiteout conditions at times. Travel will become extremely difficult and even impossible through parts of the region by tonight and Saturday morning.

Notice that heavy snow is expected to bypass New York state and New England.

Close to 2 feet on the ground right now.
Estimates are climbing upward - now 30" to 38" various local areas.

The December snow was a #7 lifetime snowstorm, this one has a day to go with a double stalled low. The storm last week is now a major mid-atlantic with a blocking high between the low off Norfolk Va. Moisture is being pumped in with temps hovering at freezing.

Snow about 1 to 2 inches per hour expected for next 24 hours.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect until noon CST today...

The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for snow and sleet... which is in effect until
    noon CST today.

A mixture of snow and sleet has moved into northern Alabama this
morning... and with temperatures very close to freezing...
accumulations are occurring. Snow and sleet accumulations up to an
inch are likely... mainly along and north of a line from Cherokee
to Huntsville. Accumulations up to two inches are possible where
    heavier precipitation occurs.

    Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow or sleet will
cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and
limited visibilities... and use caution while driving.
