Question Picture albums in members profiles

Roll, in answer to a question in Anything Goes (Why the secrecy?) I wrote:

Thanks, dkmac, but...I can't see a one of them! It just shows a small red "x". :(
I just checked, and she's right. When I go to my profile, the album shows placeholders with a small x in the top left-hand corner of the placeholder. The pictures that I uploaded (directly) to HCW back in 2/2009 were all .jpg format. If you right-click and choose "Show Picture", nothing happens. I've gone to a couple other members' profiles, and the same thing appears - no pictures, just placeholders with a small x. I don't think that it's a problem with IE8, because .jpg pictures show up fine elsewhere.

Perhaps the new VB4.05 isn't handling the old uploads properly?

I can sometimes only see the photos (red x) when I use Firefox. Other times, I can see them with IE. Being computer-challenged, I just fumble around until I find what works.

It must be an IE8 thing.

I launched "virtual" XP from inside WIN7 (a very neat feature in WIN7 Pro and Ultimate BTW) and started IE7. Logged onto HCW, and when I looked at my profile, all the pictures in my album are showing. Joe-Nathan's and Nightrider's also. The problem is that WIN7 installs IE8 by default, so you don't have any choice - at least as far as IE is concerned. I've also noticed using IE8 that a few of the graphics that Roll posts in the Tropical Weather forum also show the placeholder with a red x.

If it's IE, then why is everything working in IE7, but not in IE8? Do I need to send in an error (bug) report to MS about IE8 not working correctly on vB 4.0.5, which I'd be happy to do?
