Hi from New York (for now)

New guy here just stopping in to say Hi!

I currently live on Long Island, New York, but my wife is planning on dragging us back to SE Florida in a couple of months. I found HCW in a Google search for weather-related forums.

I'm originally from Florida and have tons of experience with hurricane-related activities. I was a police officer for 25 years and wrote my deparment's handbook on hurricane preparedness and response. I am currently the IT manager for a car dealership group and part of my job responsibilities include hurricane prep and disaster recovery.

Weather has been a long-time esoteric avocation for me. Like a lot of people, I just discovered the show Storm Chasers. Being an uber-geek, the tools they use (ie, software and net based resources) are my major source of fascination.

Basically, I'm here to learn. From what I've seen so far, I've come to the right place. I'll probably ask a lot of questions. I really need to brush up on meteorology basics and am anxious to get into HOW forecasting is done and how the storm-chaser types interpret all the data they have at their disposal.
