Once again, as the severe weather warnings come out
I once again think about the storm shelter that I should have in my backyard. But I always do think about it when you can hear the branches snap in the strong winds. My husband doesn't seem to think we need one, but he's hardly here, (I didn't think we need a motorcycle either but there's one sitting in the garage), anyways...just wanted some opinions on types of shelters or which you think are the best? We have lived here 2 years and in 2003 I think it was this house was nearly sideswiped, less than a mile away a good sized tornado went through here and this house sustained a lot of hail damage. I am just paranoid, but I would feel better knowing I had a place to run if I needed it!

When we build our house next year I will definatly have one. It is a good investment to have even if you only have to use it once.

If you are by yourself a lot then having one would relieve some of the anxiety of storm season. Just tell him that you could build a ramp to it and wheel the motor cycle down there too lol.

I'm not really familiar with the different types but there is a shop that sells the kind that are made out of steel and concrete that go underground. I would probably go that route and make sure it had a good ventilation system. Never know how long you might be down there if debris covers the top. I would most likely stay away from the kind that they put in the ground in the garage. Most garages I see barley fit 2 cars in so if the entrance is blocked by a car then you would have to move a car first to get in it. Might be too late then.

Good luck in your shelter search.

Good point about the scooter, I'll have to use that one. And again good advice about the garage one, I've seen those advertised as well, and yes my car sitting on top of me won't do!
