Question for those who live in Tornado prone area's?
It is my firm belief that no matter how much warning you give, how many shelters are available etc. when you have large and strong/violent tornados moving through a populated area that there will usually be some fatalities. There are many different types of people out and about during severe weather, the intoxicated, handicapped, elderly, stubborn, ill informed, etc. and the government/NWS etc. cannot possibly save everyone during extreme severe weather situations, it's just not possible and comes down to personal responsibility and some luck. Even when people do take the appropriate safety precautions the severity of an event like the Greensburg tornado or the tornado that struck Jarrel Texas can kill. Some people died in their basements during the Greensburg event and some people died while taking cover in their interior rooms during the Jarrel Texas tornado. All the NWS, storm spotters, emergency management people can do is to try and save as many lives as is possible. This latest tornado outbreak had a large number of large strong/violent tornados moving at high speeds through some populated areas and many of these occurred at night or early in the morning, all this added up to disaster and you could almost say that it's a miracle that many more people didn't die.

I live in an apartment, and I really don't see the bathroom as providing that much shelter, seeing how it has doors on two sides.

As for the large number of tornadoes this year, I chalk it up to the fact that this is an election year--thus we have large amounts of hot air being generated at the surface.
