Understanding Steering Currents
So, I think I get the concept of steering currents, but I have trouble interpreting them on maps? What is a good resource to learn about steering currents and how to understand them on weather maps? Which weather maps best show steering currents?

Understanding Steering Currents
Here is a good site to look at upper level winds both current and forecast.
http://www.rap.ucar.edu/weather/upper/ http://www.rap.ucar.edu/weather/model/in...?model=gfs Generally speaking, I look at the level above the level where the circulation is closed (if there is one) to determine the movement of the surface system. If there is no closed circulation, generally the 500 mb flow is a good one to look at. |
