Not that I wish mayhem on anyone.. but, if this season is going to pan out like the forecasters claimed 2 months ago, then, it had better get crackin!

OMG What is going on out there. I went to bed 3 hours ago and there was nothing! Now i wake up to lightening and thunder every couple minutes and tornado warnings. I look at the radar and this thing went nuts in the last couple hours and looks like it turned north right over new orleans!

From the N.O. NWS:

Quote:AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW ORLEANS LA
508 AM CDT SUN JUL 25 2010

.SHORT TERM...
THE REMNANTS OF BONNIE CONTINUE TO MOVE SLOWLY NORTH NORTHWEST
ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA EARLY THIS MORNING. THE
CIRCULATION AROUND THE LOW IS EVIDENT ON THE 88D RETURNS...AND
HAVE RECENTLY BECOME VERY CONCERNED ABOUT ISOLATED ROTATING STORMS
AND SLOW MOVING DOWNPOURS NEAR THE REMNANT LOW CENTER SOUTH OF
LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN. THE AMOUNT OF CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING AND
STRONG CELL ROTATION IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL TROPICAL VARIETY WITH 60
KNOTS OR SHEAR DETECTED EARLIER WITH THE STORM THAT PROMPTED THE
FIRST TORNADO WARNING NEAR LAFITTE LA.

EXPECT THERE TO BE SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS
TODAY.

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1459
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0557 AM CDT SUN JUL 25 2010

AREAS AFFECTED...SERN/ERN LA...SRN/CNTRL MS

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH UNLIKELY

VALID 251057Z - 251300Z

THE NEED FOR A WW IS NOT ANTICIPATED AT THE PRESENT TIME...BUT
TRENDS WILL BE MONITORED.

RECENT INCREASE IN VIGOROUS THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS SOUTHEASTERN
LOUISIANA AND ADJACENT SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI HAS OCCURRED WITH THE
INLAND PROGRESSION OF THE REMNANT CIRCULATION CENTER OF BONNIE.
ENHANCED LOW-LEVEL CONVERGENCE AND INFLUX OF HIGH BOUNDARY LAYER
MOISTURE CONTENT /UPPER 70S SURFACE DEW POINTS/ HAS SUPPORTED
ACTIVITY IN THE PRESENCE OF THERMODYNAMIC PROFILES CHARACTERIZED BY
RELATIVELY STEEP MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES...HIGH CAPE AND SIZABLE
MID/UPPER-LEVEL TEMPERATURE DEW POINT SPREADS...ABOVE A DEEP
SATURATED SURFACE BASED LAYER.

WHILE LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE PROFILES ARE FAVORABLE...LOW-LEVEL FLOW
FIELDS AND SHEAR ASSOCIATED WITH THE TROPICAL SYSTEM REMAIN RATHER
WEAK /GENERALLY LESS THAN 20 KT/. UNLESS SIGNIFICANT STRENGTHENING
OCCURS...TORNADIC POTENTIAL APPEARS TO BE RATHER LOW ...ALTHOUGH
PERHAPS NOT COMPLETELY NEGLIGIBLE.

AS CONVECTION PERSISTS...IT DOES SEEM POSSIBLE THAT THE SLOW
EVOLUTION OF A CONSOLIDATED AND STRENGTHENING SURFACE COLD POOL
COULD DEVELOP...WHICH COULD IN TURN PROMOTE UPSCALE CONVECTIVE
GROWTH NORTH OF LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN INTO PARTS OF EAST CENTRAL
LOUISIANA AND MUCH OF SOUTHWESTERN MISSISSIPPI...ON NORTHWARD INTO
THE INTERSTATE 20 CORRIDOR...BETWEEN NOW AND 15-16Z. IF THIS
OCCURS...POTENTIAL FOR STRONG...BUT MOSTLY SUB-SEVERE...WIND GUSTS
MAY INCREASE...ALONG WITH THE LOCALLY VERY HEAVY RAINFALL.
