HURRICANE IRENE UPDATED GRAPHICS POST#1
Work is open, still has power, so life continues on as normal. One of the side roads I take to get to the highway was blocked by a downed tree but the detour is pretty easy.

I'm just happy that I'm not in Vermont. Scary stuff there. I may be up that way in 3 weeks or so to take some foliage photos. I'll share pictures of any damage that's still around by then.

Just think about that before you call this a "hype" storm.

Any storm that causes loss of life and severe property damage is not a "hype" storm in my opinion. Any storm of this size hitting the Northeast/New England area should not be labled a "hype" storm---way too many people impacted because of dense population. Glad our northern friends all are ok.

Roll - once again, you did a fantastic job with a big storm! Even though it sorta fizzled in the end, the best info anywhere was right here on HCW. Don't know what we'd do without you!!

Now on to something in the GOM that brings us some dang R-A-I-N!!

Well, by "sorta fizzled" I meant it was a Cat 1 then TS as opposed to Cat 3 or 4.

Seagull - yesterday/Sunday early AM you asked "Where Is Everyone". If they're like me they lost internet when the storm came through. If I get this post through its only via my Blackberry since we STILL don't have power and that means no PC or internet. How did you fare and how much storm surge did you all have in Naraganset Bay and Rhode Island in general?Sign I saw painted on the back window of a local SUV in "The Aftermath":"Good Night, Irene!"I think I posted in this thread that the Usual "Friday Afternoon Beach Traffic Traffic Jam" was reversed with all the traffic headed Westbound.Today had the usual Friday Beach traffic after Ocean City announced its back open for business. It may have been unrelated but I was quite happy to see that what looked like all the dry air that Irene ingested might have been "The Texas Draught"???Fred/Kobe/Kobayashi

I think a big thumb's up is in order for ALL involved in tracking Hurricane Irene. From my perspective, despite being downgraded from original projections, there was very little deviation in her path from the general consensus of the experts. Thanks to that level of accuracy, everyone in the right areas had ample time to set plans into action, albeit evacuations, additional emergency support, etc.

A lot of them out there who have the nerve to say Irene was "over hyped" just have to have something to yell about. Many of them were originally saying not to get too excited about the projections, because Hurricane Irene will probably just blow out to sea.

I say GREAT JOB and THANK YOU!
