Took a bit of a drive today after work. Lots of limb damage and debris on the side streets. Only saw one tree that was down completely.

National Grid just announced that they have never had has many people out of power in the history of the state. My mother lives in elderly housing and they tell me today that she will not have power until at least the weekend. She is here with me and she is one of the lucky ones. There are elderly there with emergency help buttons that they can't press for help, no phones to call for help. It is a mess. Fortunately the community is helping to bring food in and it has not been hot today but we are not used to this up here and it is quite an adjustment for these people. But it was a "hyped" hurricane.

I'm surprised that you didn't see more trees down with all the rain your area has had since the first of August. But, thank the gods for small favors!

Up in eastern mass we've actually been fairly average until Irene came through. Other areas of the Northeast, though, have had it way worse.
