One thing to keep in mind is that when the NHC issues an advisory, it is only saying that winds with the maximum velocity are present somewhere in the storm. not everywhere or even in a significant portion of the 'cane. Also, the speed of the forward movement of the storm is effectively added to the wind speeds on the right side (and subtracted from the left side) compared to a stationary system. So with Nate, a forward motion of 25 mph could have meant that the maximum stationary wind speed was only 65 mph at its height, depending on where the max was detected.

At least this is my understanding.
